Open Enrollment 2012-2013

Students who reside within Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) boundaries may apply to attend any PUSD school through Open Enrollment. Open Enrollment is the District’s annual school of choice program that starts in November with priority enrollment. Priority enrollment is followed by general Open Enrollment beginning January 11, 2012.

2012-13 Late Application Period Extended for Dual Language Immersion Program-Spanish

The Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program at San Rafael Elementary has successfully built the bilingual and biliteracy skills of both native English and Spanish speaking students. The program at Jackson Elementary will open in Fall 2012 beginning with a kindergarten class and expand by one grade each year. Below is information regarding submitting an application for the Dual Language Immersion Program-Spanish.

  • Late applications are done in person and on-line at the District Office, 351 S. Hudson, Pasadena, in the Welcome Center, Room 121.
  • This phase of Open Enrollment is "first-submitted, first-assigned."
  • Late applicants will not be placed until the current District Open Enrollment waitlist has been depleted.
  • Applicants will be notified of placement by phone by Friday, May 4, 2012.

Dual-Language Immersion Programs

Out-of-district students entering Kindergarten (student will be 5-years-old on or before November 1, 2012) can submit an application for PUSD’s Spanish or Mandarin Chinese Dual Language Immersion Programs beginning 8 a.m., Monday, April 2, 2012 until 8 a.m., Saturday, April 7, 2012.

At this time, PUSD anticipates some openings in the two language programs, primarily for native-language speakers.

If applications exceed the number of spaces a lottery will be conducted.

Notifications of eligibility to enroll in a Dual Language Immersion Program will begin in late April.

Out-of-district students wishing to enter a Dual Language Immersion Program in 1st to 4th grades do not apply via Open Enrollment.

Instead, during April the family may make an appointment at the school site for a readiness assessment and if space is available, notification of acceptance will occur after May 4th.

Please note, Pasadena Unified School District will be closed for Spring Recess 4/2-6.

* Enrollment Priorities, with specific criteria, are given to:

  1. Siblings of students already enrolled at a school of choice
  2. Willard Fifth Grade Students for Blair IB Middle School
  3. Pasadena Unified School District monthly employees

Once enrolled, a student does not have to annually reapply.
